ABOUT PSYCHOTHERAPY AND COUNSELLING

Psychotherapy and Counselling are umbrella terms that are often used interchangeably.

Counselling is generally used to denote a relatively brief treatment. It often targets a particular symptom or problematic situations.

Psychotherapy on the other hand, is generally a longer term treatment which focuses more on gaining insight into emotional problems. Its focus is on thought processes and ways of being in the world rather than specific problems.

Counselling and Psychotherapy are processes that can help you make a sense of what is happening to you in a safe, non-judgemental and confidential setting as well as supporting you through a difficult period. It is a unique process aimed to help you find your own strength to help yourself. It is a liberating process where you learn to trust another person and feel understood in a way you may have not thought possible.

Counselling can offer you a safe and confidential space , where you can talk about yourself and your life.

Counselling can offer an opportunity to think and talk about yourself and your concerns in a way that you often can't do with family and friends.

Counselling can offer a place and time which is just for you to talk about those things that bother you.

Counselling offers you the space to be listened to, to think about the way you feel, and to explore how this affects you and others.

Counselling is non judgemental.

Counselling can help you to make the changes you would like to happen.

Counselling is about working with you towards improving your well being.

A good therapeutic relationship is important so we can work well together, understanding that it is not always easy to talk about problems or to express your feelings.
